  1. I had an idea for a problem that was showing up on the production line (the idea came about after seeing the Device Rotating Module). Normally I would make a simple cad design in Onshape (I don't have Solidworks at work and I use the makers edition at home) but I decided to just start with a piece of paper and a pencil. I got further inspiration viewing YouTube videos on 3D printing and just starting drawing. I added dimensions where I needed to and notes as well to create a version 1 and it felt relaxing because I wasn't fighting software. (I of course made the paper sketch into a PDF so I couldn't lose it). It also helped that it was quiet and I could focus but to me sketching seems easier on paper and then turning to CAD once ready.

  3. A corrective action report is a technical document that details an issue regarding a product and the steps required to correct the complaint. Included in the report are the customer giving the complaint, the customer representative reporting the complaint and the team handling the complaint. The team handling the complaint usually (but not always) includes management, engineering, quality assurance, and other teams as needed. An investigation is performed by the engineering team (with assistance from other teams as needed) to determine the issue (or root cause) and note the action taken to resolve the customer issue. These reports are then signed by all managers and kept with quality assurance for records.

  8. Biomedical Engineering is the the intersection of biology and engineering. From designing new therapies for diseases or medical devices it involves many engineering disciplines such as mechanical, electrical and chemical in application to biology (not necessarily only human biology).

  10. Injection molding is great when you want to make 10,000-100,000+ parts (scale) and use a large machine with a mold that is cut out of steel or aluminum. However, to get there requires a lot of work and high costs (up to 10,000+ in some cases) to get a mold right. Additive manufacturing (using 3D printing to make parts) is great for low volume and prototyping but what if we could combine them? Using 3D printing and Additive manufacturing to make a mold that can be used to demonstrate the prototype (and it is easier to change) before going the traditional injection molding route. Mantle 3D printers are used just for this (along with Desktop Metal) and Formlabs has a great webinar on this very subject for low volume molding.   11. @Blackbirdwake Of course those restrictions are there but they do have dedicated maker support (GoEngineer pointed this out to me when I was having an issue and the forum thread for that is here) because they know hobbyists who start with Solidworks start to demand it at work. @Aaron Moncur Not trying to spam links but that maker support email is something that will encourage more to try this very powerful software!
  12. For makers and engineers providing not only tools such as multimeters and power supplies but also know how. Their Learn guides are extensive step by step as they prioritize education. They are a pleasure to work with!

This is a great bundle although it is only for personal use you get access to solidworks and its cloud design tools like xShape and xDesign (which are perfect when your computer doesn't want to install solidworks). The price is also very reasonable (considering professional solidworks packages range in the 1000s-10000s depending on what you are purchasing).

  16. @Noah Burk it's mostly for work related stuff (fixtures and such) but I have looked into Resin printers (Formlabs/Nexa3D) as well as Bambu/Prusa and of course for YouTube there is the 3D Printing Nerd and yes @Mark this is subjective but I will say that nylon is great for fixtures. Then there is also metal 3D printing like the Markforged and Ultimaker.
  17. There are many 3D printers available for Makers/Hobby Use Which was your first one that started you down the path of 3D printing? And which one would you recommend to get started?

Onshape is not Solidworks/Fusion 360/Inventor it is cloud based but here is where it can be a great asset What you are designing is not internal as the free version makes everything public When you need to just design something but you are offsite and only have a mobile device When you have hardware that is not powerful enough to run a desktop CAD like Solidworks/Inventor/Fusion 360. Onshape does have limitations but it is great for a first step and it looks like Solidworks (since the founder of Solidworks started it)

    @Aaron Moncur I've known this vendor for two years now they have provided 3D printing services (Nylon 3D printing services as they have HP 3D printers). They have been great to work with and the turn around time is quick.
